NACE Starleague and Extra Life: A New Commitment to the Gaming Community

NACE Starleague is proud to announce that Extra Life will be the organization’s official charitable partner as a part of a brand new, multi-year deal starting this 2022-2023 competitive season. The renowned gaming centric fundraising program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals plans to team up with both NACE Starleague and their associated operators Playfly Esports on several future fundraising endeavors that will utilize the power of the esports community to change kids’ health to change the future at member children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.

Making a Difference Together

Extra Life is a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ fundraising program that provides support for 170 member children’s hospitals. Extra Life was founded in 2008 in Orange, Texas, to help children that needed it the most.

“Extra Life’s mission is incredibly important, and we look forward to supporting awareness and fundraising with them throughout NACE Starleague events, our community of players, and the supporters of collegiate esports,” said Rob Johnson, CEO of Playfly Esports.

“Many of NACE’s members have supported Extra Life throughout the last few years with their own campus initiatives,” said Michael Brooks, Executive Director of the National Association of Collegiate Esports. “Elevating this level of involvement to include NACE Starleague is a huge level-up in the ways that we can use collegiate esports for real good in the real world.”

In 2010, Extra Life became an official Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals program, with its primary focus being on how best to utilize the power of gaming when it came to fundraising for member children’s hospitals. Member hospitals of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide $3.4 billion in charitable care for young patients annually, impacting more than 10 million patients a year.

“Every minute, 62 kids enter a local member hospital of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for care in the U.S. and Canada. Extra Lifers across the globe play games to change kids’ health to change the future and we couldn’t be more grateful for this partnership.” said Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals President & CEO Teri Nestel. “When we change kids’ health, we unlock a world of possibilities for their future. We look forward to all the great things Extra Lifers part of NACE Starleague will do for local children’s hospitals.”

Extra Life has been a notable figurehead within the gaming scene since its partnership with Twitch in 2012. The streaming platform has since become one of Extra Life’s leading broadcast channels to help raise awareness and funding for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In 2014 Extra Life reached 100,000 active heroes within their community, which has since led to more than$100 million raised since 2008. In partnership with NACE Starleague, both organizations hope to continue following in the footsteps of this historic legacy by working alongside each of their respective communities towards the continued support of healthcare for pediatric patients in need.
